This was written and recorded in 1997 in Bath, which is where I was living at the time (my studio was my parents' summerhouse, which overlooks the canal - quite idyllic). I recorded the main backing track on my Korg T2 and took it to James (The Korgis/Stackridge) Warren's studio in the city centre where we added his electric guitar and my vocals (he also sang the very top line of the backing vocals - all the rest are sung by me - in real time - no computers C&P in those days). *UPDATE* I am writing this from that same idyllic spot - my newly upgraded Summerhouse Studio. I moved to my mum's house in Bath on Sept 7th 2019. Happy place!

The Last Chance Saloon
In an urban forest, dead of night, dark shadows ply their trade,
some whispered thoughts, expressions caught in pools of light and shade.
Some bodies may be captured in the freeze-frame of the moon,
whilst others wait for rapture in the last chance saloon.
On a magic carpet, voices low, with eyes of infra-red,
two pagan heroes out to show that ritual is not dead.
They're devil-may-care dancing to a different kind of tune,
then dreaming of romancing in the last chance saloon.
You know you've got to hold on, hold on, hold on to your self-esteem.
Yeah hold on, oooh, hold on, hold on to... hold on to your dream.
(won't you hold on, won't you hold on?), yeah you've got to hold on.
So it's hello freedom, goodbye love, now your spirit can be free.
The darkness made you distant as you danced beneath the trees.
Tonight you dream, supposing that the daylight's coming soon,
but the doors are never closing on the last chance saloon.
You know you've got to hold on, hold on, hold on to your self-esteem.
Yeah you gotta hold on, oooh, hold on, hold on to... hold on to your dream.
Hold on (won't you hold on?), hold on (won't you hold on?),
hold on (won't you hold on?) to your self esteem (won't you hold on?).
Yeah you've got to hold on (won't you hold on?) ooh, hold on (won't you hold on?),
hold on to... hold on to your dream.
You've got to hold on, hold on, yeah.
You know you've gotta hold on (won't you hold on?), hold on (won't you hold on?),
hold on (won't you hold on?) to your self-esteem.
Yeah hold on (won't you hold on?), hold on (won't you hold on?)
hold on (won't you hold on?, hold on to your dream...

Loved Bridget with Hawkwind and Spirits Burning. This is an enthusiastic collection of songs with great performances and melodic and lyrical detail to fascinate.
